Second Community Fundraising Meeting - Sunday, April 17th

Hi all,

Wanted to make sure everyone had the following message sent out by Tony Palmer:

BES Bamboo Garden Fundraiser Weds. 13 April

Banboo Garden is holding a fundraiser to support BES on Wednesday 13 April; 20% of all orders will go to Brisbane Elementary School.  See the attached flier (follow the link!) for coupons and more information.  Hope to see many of you there.

So what happens if...

We fall short of the $1M goal?

And then, the parcel tax doesn't pass?

And then, we continue to be assaulted by 20% + annual cuts each year?

Is there a worst case scenario for what an annual budget would be?

What is the best case most desirable budget for great schools?

Is there a most likely figure?

Current budget is about $14M, right?

And we would like it be about $15M, regardless of funding sources?

I'm trying my best to keep up here, but it's difficult ya know?  Forgive me if I am way off.

Facebook Page

Hi all,

I'm not so into facebook myself but clearly many, many people are. I think we should start a sosbsd facebook page with a link to this site to try and get more folks to sign up and get involved. I figure people check their facebook page all the time and it's easier to reach more people so if we can get the conversation flowing that way, it could help our efforts.

Thoughts? Big facebook user who wants to initiate this? I can if no-one else wants to.

cheers,

deedee

city festival

Deedee and Rachel, this sounds like a really interesting idea. There are also several people (I am one of them) who are working on ideas for a large city-wide festival in Brisbane that we would like to hold in the fall of this year. This idea also came up at these "Big Idea" meetings. I think that we need to organize the group here on sosbsd and discuss this.  We really want to coordinate our efforts!

Food Truck Festival Fundraiser

Rachel Ennis and I have started talking about hosting a food truck/ street food festival in Brisbane as a fundraiser. My thought is that we would try to have our own beer and wine tent to earn money as well as potentially getting a percentage from the food vendors. I'm throwing out this idea now as I suspect there are lots of folks out there who might have information, experience or resources to contribute. In other words, let me know your thoughts!

Initial steps:

Determine location (Brisbane Marina?)

Permits

Date

Permits and logistics for alcohol sales

Meeting tonight....

Hi.

I am hearing a lot of division out there.  Heck, I even had some stuff come out of my mouth (in an emotional moment with a friend) yesterday that surprised me and didn’t make me proud of myself.

As we walk through this process, we need to be careful that we do not harm children in exchange for harmony among adults.  We have an opportunity to disagree with each other’s ideas and still roll up our sleeves and do what is best for our district.   We CAN move to a higher frequency on this.  Disagree and recommit.

Posting Documents on sosbsd.org

Hi Group,

Is there a way to post documents (Word) on this site?  I have a Wish List from Jolene Heckerman at Lipman.  This list was sent out by my group (Grants).  But, I thought the items in this list would be good for other people in this group should see.

Regards,

Ernie

Notes from last sosbsd meeting + next steps

1)    It is critical you come to the School Board meeting this coming Wednesday at Panorama.  We need your help.

Welcome to sosbsd.org (A late welcome, or a re-welcome)

We've had quite a few people sign up for sosbsd.org in the past couple of weeks -- thank you all for your support!  I am sending out this re-welcome message because I realized the other day that some of the subscription information in the site had been dropped, and some people were not receiving emails for groups they had signed up for.  Today, I fixed it all up.  In particular, I did two things:

Social media and sosbsd

Thanks to a nifty little module called slinky (for Social Link-y, I think), I now have some social-networking links at the bottom of every post for sharing content on sites such as Facebook and Twitter.  I have also added super-short links to sosbsd.org; for example, you can get to this post via http://sosbsd.org/54.

Looks like measure W is a pass!

Results are on the San Mateo County website: so far 853 YES to 393 NO.  It is unclear whether there are still VBM ballots left to count, but it appears that there is enough of a margin that it is very likely to stay ahead.

A big THANK YOU to everyone for all of your hard work in getting out the vote!  This is a small but important step on our road to saving all of our Brisbane School District schools.
